Dracaena reflexa shrub's flowers are small, clustered, usually white and extremely fragrant, appearing in mid-winter.
Easily grown in consistently moist to wet soils in full sun. Tolerates light shade, but performs best in full sun. Tolerates heavy soils. Needs ample moisture, but also does surprisingly well in slightly moist soils that do not dry out. Dracaena reflexa is a popular ornamental plant, both in the landscape and the home. It can be enjoyed as a specimen plant, accent, or pruned to create a border. Several cultivars have been selected, particularly variegated clones with cream and yellow-green margins. It performs well as a houseplant, tolerating infrequent waterings. It prefers bright, filtered light, without direct sun exposure, restricted outdoors to zones 10–11. It has average water needs and should be fertilized bi-weekly when actively growing. Although it can survive in relatively low light levels, the plant may grow spindly if given insufficient light. When grown indoors, temperatures of 18 °C to 25 °C (64 °F to 77 °F) should be maintained. It can be propagated via herbaceous stem cuttings.

PLANTING AND CARE

It can be propagated from tip cuttings taken with three or four leaves attached. Insert the tip cuttings in 8cm (3inch) pots filled with a moistened rooting mixture consisting of equal parts peat and sand. Enclose the pots in a plastic bag and keep them in a temperature of 21-24 degrees C in partially shaded positions. Alternatively can be used a heated propagator case. No additional water will be needed for four to six weeks.
After rooting has occurred, remove the pot for plastic bag or propagator and begin to water the new plant moderately, moistening the potting mixture at each watering and allowing the top centimeter (0.4 inches) or so of the mixture to dry out before watering again. When roots appear on the surface of the mixture, move the young plant into a pot one size larger containing the standard potting mixture used for adult plants and treat them as mature plant.

CARE

Fertilize the plant in spring just before new growth appears.
Pinch off the tips of the vines in the second year to promote branching which will fill the trellis with bushy growth.
The vining plant is prone to spider mites, which can be combated with horticultural oil or neem oil.
Water the plant only when the upper layer of soil becomes dry.
Proivide water only to the soil do not water on the foliage.
