Yazhpanam is also a native variety and is from Sri Lanka. It has most of the characteristics like the West Coast Tall and East Coast Tall variety. The Plant grows up to 60 feet and starts flowering in 4.5 years. It attains full maturity level from the 6th year and gives better yielding. The nuts are medium in size and is greenish orange in color. Similar to the native variety this can with stand drought condition and are less prone to diseases and pests’ attacks. With average water supply and maintenance maximum yielding can be achieved. From the feedback from our customers for the last 15 years we have got a message that the yielding of Yazhpanam variety is slightly higher than the local Native variety. This grows well in most of the soil conditions and in higher altitudes as well. The leaves in the tree are well spaced unlike the hybrid varieties. While Planting the saplings spacing of 25*25 is mandatory so that the tree gets proper sunlight and the leaves of the other tree doesn’t touch each other.
Nanjil Nursery in Kanyakumari is one of the few nurseries which have this variety for sale throughout India. The saplings are grown from the nuts which is collected from 30 years old plants. For outstation customers the saplings will be well packed and parceled without any damage at minimum charge.
